Trade and Private Sector Consultant

The UK Department for International Development (DFID) has an annual programme in Vietnam of £50 million. It works closely with the Government of Vietnam and other development partners to eradicate poverty. As Vietnam is moving to middle income country status, supporting Vietnam to reap the benefits of international integration and develop the private sector becomes increasingly important for sustainable poverty reduction.

DFID Vietnam is looking to recruit a Trade and Private Sector Consultant during eight months, from mid November 2009 to mid July 2010. A full Terms of Reference outlining main responsibilities, knowledge/experience and required skills is available on request.  This post is open to both Vietnamese and Hanoi-based international candidates at the competitive rates.

The Key duties of this post include

  • Project management: Act as Project Officer for the Beyond WTO programme and the Making Markets Work Better for the Poor programme
  • Policy development and dialogue: Lead the development of DFID Vietnam policies on trade and private sector development
  • Corporate support: Lead inputs to corporate reporting and briefing
  • Joint work with the British Embassy: Lead DFID Vietnam’s engagement with DFID/BIS (The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills) Trade Policy Unit on trade and development  

The successful candidate will have

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience on project management, trade and private sector development.
  • Policy and coordination experience.
  • Fluency in English (essential)
  • Good communication skills including good writing/drafting skills in English
  • Familiarity with Government institutional landscapes and policy processes is an advantage.
