Appeals & complaints

Appeals

Certain categories of visa attract the right of appeal. If you have the right of appeal this will be stated in your written notice of refusal. Family visitors, settlement applications and students who apply to spend over six months in the UK - amongst others - have the right of appeal.

For more detailed information read our guidance on Appeals (INF 19)

Complaints

UKvisas is committed to providing the best possible service and believes that handling complaints is an important part of our service. We also welcome any comments that you may wish to make about our operation. We are committed to:

  • listening to our users’ views
  • learning from our mistakes
  • continually improving our service.

If you have a comment or complaint to make, this page tells you how to contact us.

Individual Applications Overseas

At the British Embassy in Hanoi, the Visa Section aims to provide an efficient and courteous service to our customers. If you have any complaints about the standards of service provided by this Section, please write to:

Entry Clearance Manager
Visa Services
British Embassy Bangkok
14 Wireless Road, Pathumwan
Bangkok 10330
or by e-mail

If your complaint is about the Entry Clearance Manager, please address your letter to the British Ambassador.

We aim to reply to you within 5 working days.

But please note:

The complaints procedure outlined above relates to standards of service and not the refusal of an entry clearance (visa) application. There is a formal procedure for appealing against an entry clearance refusal. You will be notified of this procedure and whether you qualify at the time of refusal.

Please note there is no right of appeal for those going to the UK to study for six months or less. If you are a visitor, you do not qualify to appeal against an entry clearance refusal, unless you are visiting a close family member in the UK.

Please do not write to us in these cases.
