British Council in Vietnam
The British Council is the United Kingdom's international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We build engagement and trust for the UK through the exchange of knowledge and ideas between people worldwide.
We operate in over 100 countries and connect people worldwide with learning opportunities and creative ideas from the UK and build lasting relationships between the UK and other countries. We do this through on-line and face-to-face exchanges between people.
The British Council began operating in Vietnam in 1993 and has offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. We work closely with the British Embassy, the British Consulate General in HCMC, DFID (Department for International Development) and with numerous Vietnamese government and non government organisations. We offer a range of educational services – such as English classes, examinations and interviews for UK institutions. We develop mutually beneficial projects with Vietnamese partners and offer development opportunities for individuals, education institutions, government and business organisations in the following priority areas for Vietnam and the UK:
- Education development
- The English Language
- Access to UK education and qualifications
- Arts, Culture and Creativity
- Governance
- Information about the UK
- Climate security
Currently, some of our major projects are:
- Access English – supporting learners and teachers of English
- Connecting Classrooms – establishing school links between Vietnam, East Asia countries and UK
- Creative Cities – exploring the potential of our cities
